Sometimes it all just becomes too much and you need to grab your blankie and curl up on the dance floor and have a nap. How hilarious is this moment from Rob & Bec’s wedding. Their little flower girl was just so tired after such a long day that she just wanted to sleep… on the dance floor. How on earth she could sleep with all that noise.. I have no idea, but it makes an incredibly memorable photograph. I’m sure her parents will pull this photo out at her 21st!

Last week I had the pleasure of heading into Showroom Brisbane for another great League of Extraordinary Women event. I absolutely loving attending all of the events as it is so nice to get out of the office, into the city and networking with other like minded women. I must admit when I booked my ticket to this event, I had no idea who Megan Morton was. I did a quick google and found that she was a stylist, educator, owned an amazing studio and prop house and just an all round great chick. I had no expectations going in but walked away with my mind blown. Not only is Megan an amazing stylist, but she is a kick ass business women with a philosophy of doing things slow.. getting out of the non-stop digital world and back into tangible, analogue world. She spends countless hours in libraries and spaces to be inspired… she thinks outside the box and takes it all in. She runs multiple business with so much ease and grace. One of the biggest lessons I learnt and I think the word of the day was “velocity”.. take the momentum and work towards your dreams and the velocity will make it happen. Another massive takeaway for me was a reminder to make connections with other humans.. not just online. Watching Megan connect with all the wonderful ladies in the room was beautiful. She introduced herself, gave them a compliment and really looked at you when you were speaking. I feel like in this day and age, we don’t do this enough. So you could say the couple of hours that I spent listening to Megan talk was very inspirational and I had a few takeways to implement even though I’m not in the styling business.

Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of capturing the lovely Miss N for a bridal boudoir experience. She wanted to gift her husband to be something a little different so we created a gorgeous boudoir experience. Miss N totally rocked her shoot! She owned her body and had the most amazing confidence. I took so many photos!!! So here is Miss N’s boudoir experience…

About You

1. Describe yourself in 3 words?
Creative,  passionate, dorky.

2. Describe 3 things people might not know about you?
Despite my hard exterior I am very shy, I have battled with anxiety and eating disorders I have kept hidden and with the help of a loving partner have finally conquered, it’s taken 25 years to live my body and I refuse to let anyone tell me it’s not worth regardless of its size appearance or the art I tattoo on it.

3. Describe 3 things you wanted your boudoir session to represent?
Confidence,  sex-appeal,  strength

4. How do you feel about your body?
In all honesty my relationship with my body has been a struggle.  I have battled many demons in term of my body and am finally coming to term with who I am.

5. What is your go-to item when you want to feel absolutely gorgeous? Anything Honey Birdett,  if I’m not feeling up to do lingerie can’t beat my partners button work shirt and a pair of pin-up heals.

6. What is your best tip for feeling beautiful?
Smile.  I can knit pit forever on part of my body I don’t like and it’s changes everyday.  If you have the courage to smile your beauty will shine

7. What does confidence mean to you?
Confidence for me is more to do with knowing I am stronger than what I was yesterday.  The strength to know I can conquer anything and that I deserve to be happy.  My body is a battle ground that hasn’t given up when I have.  It is more beautiful and precious because of it.

The Experience

1. Why did you book a boudoir session with Nicole Barralet Photography?
I never once spoke to Nicole about my insecurities or past body issue.  The day I did the shoot I had one thing on my mind my husband to be.  Together we had battled through a lot of my issues and he has always built me up and told me I was beautiful.  I wanted to show him that I was worth it.  The boudoir shoot was a gift for the day of the weeding.  A little I love and I am a better person because of you.

2. What does the term “boudoir photography” mean to you?
It not just a about sexy photos it’s about loving your self and seeing you body as what it is.  To mean my body was once week and deprived.  It is now strong and fit.  It’s been built with love and deserve to be showcased.

3. How did you find the experience of being photographed by Nicole?
She was beyond amazing.  She was helpful in making you feel comfortable to bringing out you super sexy alter ego. We shared stories and a few laughs.  Never once did I feel uncomfortable and I couldn’t recommend her enough if I tried.

4. If you did the shoot as a gift, how did your husband react to the gift?
I had the best man film my partner opening his gift on the wedding day.  It’s honestly the best reaction.. From when he realise exactly what this ‘little black book’  is to his flipping through the pages with a job-smacked grin on his cheesy face.  Flipping back a page just to make sure he’s not imagining what he was  seeing.

5. Has the experience of doing a boudoir session helped you feel more confident, more empowered, sexy and comfortable with being a woman?
Yes.  It was a really encouraging thing to do.  Not only did I feel more confident but I’d also highly recommend to anyone as a pre wedding thing.  It makes you comfortable in front of a camera in you big day and gives you this satisfaction that you are beautiful.

The experience was amazing and I couldn’t recommend you highly enough. – Miss N

The Wedding….

What was your wedding date?
28th April 2017

Why did you choose this date? Any special reason?
We choose the date as we wanted to maximise the May day long weekend for our guests travelling interstate.

Where did you have your wedding?
The Ceremony was at The Chapel, Montville, and The Reception was at The Rocks, Yandina, our guests all stayed at Noosa Heads with a buses transporting them to and from the venues.

Were there any special touches, vows, traditions or tributes that you included into your ceremony?
There were so many beautiful moments, especially including family throughout the ceremony.

If you could pick one special moment from the day to remember what would it be?
Kissing whilst standing on top of our chairs and looking down at all our loved ones watching us.

The Gown….

Who designed your gown?
Pronovias Collection

Where was it purchased?
White Lily Couture

What was your gown shopping experience like? Was this dress the first one you tried on? Did you try on hundreds, loved it, hated it?
I went to four shops and tried on about 40 dresses. I think I had in mind what I wanted. The fourth shop I went to, I had a strong feeling that I would find my dress there and was fortunate that my mum, sister and one of my bridesmaids could be present when I finally tried on my dress. Initially I was hesitant about it, but I put it to the side of potential dresses to retry. When I tried it on the second time, the sales assistant recommended I try on a jacket and a belt because she could see the style that I was going for. Once my look was complete, I turned around to see my mum, sister and friend all crying! I knew then that that had to be the one.

Where there any special details you included in your day? Did you borrow a piece of jewellery etc?
My shoes were given to me from a close friend who read at our wedding and I just couldn’t find anything more comfier and prettier than those shoes. My earrings were one of the first pieces of jewellery that Sam had ever bought me. One of my bridesmaids bought me a beautiful white lace handkerchief for my wedding day from St Gallen in Switzerland where she had been studying. She presented it to me the morning of my wedding day, so I wrapped it around my bouquet for the ceremony, just in case I needed it.

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue?

Something Old- shoes & earrings
Something – dress, hair piece
Something borrowed – didn’t have one
Something blue – I was given a little blue bag with magic stones in it the day before my wedding day, so I carried them in my purse.

Did you have any DIY elements to your day?
We made an outdoor Guess Who with pictures of all of our guests. On the opposite side we displayed some of the amazing engagement photos from our engagement photo shoot taken by your’s truly: Nicole Barralet. We also made up a bus game quiz about us for our guests to enjoy whilst they were travelling to The Chapel. We cut out love hearts with our names on them that guests had to hold up who they thought the answer to the question was about. These were also substituted as handheld fans for the Ceremony.

If you could describe the overall theme of your wedding day what would it be?
Rustic vintage

Advice…

Do you have any advice for other brides?
Ask as many people you know about what they did for their wedding day and ask them for recommendations of people they worked with. I would highly recommend everyone that helped with our wedding day. We had a very memorable experience and our day was all the more enjoyable because of it. For wedding inspiration, I spent a lot of time on pinterest!

What made your wedding day so memorable?
A combination of things, the location, the weather, the people who helped organise it and see the vision we wanted for our wedding day.

What was the funniest memory from your wedding day?
Probably watching our youngest siblings (Sam’s Sister & Von’s brother- the MC’s) bust out “Oh Happy Day” and nail it both in high notes and dance moves!

What was the weather and location like on the day?
The weather was the perfect temperature, not too cloudy and there was no wind. Everyone was comfortable, apart from a few mildly sunburnt faces.

If there was one thing that you would change from the day, what would it be and why?
The bus company that picked up our guests an hour late and pushed the ceremony back an hour and subsequently everything else back an hour. Fortunately our other wedding vendors and guests didn’t seem to mind and accommodated for it. It meant that our guests could enjoy the reception venue into the night and under the stars.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We haven’t been on our honeymoon yet, but we are hoping to go in September to Greece, Spain, Portugal and Croatia.

Nicole was so professional with helping to plan the photos we would want to have on our wedding day. From the engagement photo shoot to the wedding, Nicole helped calm our nerves in front of the camera to get some incredible photos. Her beautiful personality, friendly, cheerful smile and enthusiasm was an absolute pleasure to work with. Nicole made us feel like we’ve known her for years. Her work ethic is incredible as she worked all day and into the night for us on our special day with her awesome assistant Jess. Together they helped create memories we will treasure for many years to come. We can’t thank Nicole & Jess enough for their hard work!
