Brisbane Boudoir Photographer | A Lingerie Lesson

As a boudoir photographer, I get to see and photograph lots of different lingerie styles. I really feel that as young women, we really don’t have the same appreciation or art for lingerie that they did say back in the 20’s and 30’s.. I mean I wouldn’t want to be walking round every day in a tight corset, but it is still nice to own nice lingerie as women. There is something feminine and empowering about wearing a sexy set underneath your everyday clothing.

So today I wanted to give an overview of some of the different lingerie types… so that if I was to say check out these gorgeous Teddies, you wouldn’t think of a small stuffed toy.

Babydoll – Is a gorgeous free flowing top that goes with matching knickers. It is fitted around the bust then flows freely all the way down to the bust. A babydoll is great if you don’t want to show your tummy and also photographs really well with movement – think twirling or even in front of the fan.

babydollChemise – it is similar to a baby doll but snugs more to the body with a skimming fit  and is usually made in  chiffon, satin or lace. These work well if they have garters attached like the photo below and again if you want to show off your gorgeous figure without showing your tummy, this is a gorgeous set. Just remember when you get stockings, get the ones without the sticky stuff at the top. It makes it easier to attach the garters!

Teddies – Are very similar to body suits, but are more of a lingerie style. They are form fitting and usually only worn under clothes or in the bedroom. I absolutely love photographing teddies. They are always so sexy especially in lace and most women feel super sexy and confident in them.

Bodysuit – Very similar to a teddy, but they are made generally from different materials and can be worn out in public with jeans or a skirt. They can also be incredibly playful like the one below.

Camisole – a loose fitting top which flows down from the bust and finishes at the waist. More fitted than a babydoll and usually out of satin or lace. These look gorgeous with a cute brazillian cut knicker.

Garter – A garter is all about holding those thigh high stockings up. They can be attached to corsets, chemises, teddies or even just as a belt. They add that extra level of va va voom to your look. I absolutely love photographing garter sets in whatever form for a boudoir session. I generally love photographing them very dark, moody and mysteriously.

Corset – A corset is another great item for a boudoir session if you like to cover your tummy. They can also give your bust a great lift if they are fitted perfectly. Corsets help with your posture and give you lots of shape.

So there are just a few little ideas and explanations about different type of lingerie styles.. You also have a variety of different bras and knickers but I thought I would keep it to just a few styles today.
