Brisbane Boudoir Photographer | The Experience as told by Miss K

Miss K | Boudoir | Brisbane | 17th September 2014

A couple of months back I had the pleasure of photographing the Miss K in the studio to create a beautiful boudoir gift for her husband to be. Now Miss K wants to remain completely anonymous, but here is her boudoir story.

Describe yourself in 3 words:
Miss K: Loyal, Reserved, Perfectionist!

Describe 3 things people might not know about you:
Miss K: I love to sing (especially jazz and big band), I’m usually super organised, but my craft room looks like a bomb site. It’s my “creative space”, I love both Disney and super hero movies.

Describe 3 things you wanted your boudoir session to represent:
Miss K: Embracing my womanly-ness, I wanted to bring out my beauty, as a reminder for times I’m tempted to critique myself and I want to be comfortable and happy in my own skin.

What is your go-to item when you want to feel absolutely gorgeous?
Miss K: For me, it’s all in the face. I can be wearing jeans and a shirt, but put on some mascara and lip gloss and I feel like a million bucks!

What is your best tip for feeling beautiful?
Miss K: Stop comparing yourself to other bodies and people. Just stop. Every time you think, “Oh, I wish I was/had”… stop, and replace it with, “I have a nice smile.” or, “My butt looks awesome in these pants!”

What does confidence mean to you?
Miss K: It means being comfortable and proud of the way I look. Not hiding my body under loose clothes, but giving flattering attention to it. It means walking through a shopping centre knowing that it’s ok I can’t walk into the “skinny clothes” store, because I look great without it.

The Experience
Why did you book a boudoir session with Nicole Barralet Photography?
Miss K: I specifically wanted to do a shoot as a gift to my fiance the night before our wedding. I shopped around on the internet and Nicole had the best photos of “real” women, and they all looked relxed, glamorous, and confident. That’s what I wanted. I felt I could trust Nicole to bring out the best in my body.

What does the term “boudoir photography” mean to you?
Miss K: It means feminine, classy, empowering, and sexy photos. It’s a special kind of womanly dignity!

How did you find the experience of being photographed by Nicole?
Miss K: I really enjoyed it! Nicole was great at giving direction and keeping the mood light and relaxed. She has some fantastic, fun, creative ideas and also accomodated what I wanted. I left the studio feeling damn sexy and confident in my appearance. Months later, I still have that feeling.

If you did the shoot as a gift, how did you boyfriend/partner/fiancé/husband react to the gift?
Miss K: He hasn’t seen them yet, but knows I’ve done the shoot (I couldn’t resist telling him afterwards!) He’s really looking forward to seeing them – but more importantly he’s happy to see the confidence boost it’s already given me. He’s always trying to convince me I’m more beautiful than I think I am… after this session I think the messahe got through!

Has the experience of doing a boudoir session helped you feel more confident, more empowered, sexy and comfortable with being a woman?
Miss K: Heck yes! I’d highly recommend it to anyone.
