At the start of 2016 I decided that it was going to be the year of growth for me personally. I had been in a bit of a rut both personally and in my business and I needed to do something to get out of it. I had just starting some business coaching and it was clear that the only person holding me back was me. So I made the commitment that 2016 was going to be focused more on learning and growing. I wanted to learn more about self development, self growth and self love. I believe that these areas are the key to any success in life be it in business or your personal life. Becoming self aware and challenging your emotions and old beliefs is the only way to grow and push through those internal blocks that were stopping me from achieving my goals and dreams.

One of the smartest decisions I made last year was making the commitment to LEARN. I knew I had some blocks that I needed to deal with, so I wanted to find out how to overcome them. A big part of this for me was reading or listening to audio books. I absolutely love reading romantic fiction… but I have always struggled to read business or self development books… but when I came across audible… my whole world changed!! Suddenly I could go for a walk and listen to a book or when I am in the car driving, audible is on. I now love being in the car as it is a chance for me to learn and grow.. Even if its only a 10-15min trip. It’s amazing how much time you actually spend in your car.

So today I wanted to share my Top 3 Reads for Self Love. These are three books that I have absolutely LOVED reading and have listened to them multiple times. Each time I listen, I get a new nugget of wisdom.

 Mastering Your Mean Girl: The No-BS Guide to Silencing Your Inner Critic and Becoming Wildly Wealthy, Fabulously Healthy, and Bursting with Love
– Vanessa Ambrossini

This book was one of my favourite reads for 2016. It is all about mastering that inner voice or critic that tells you that you aren’t good enough, smart enough, pretty enough, skinny enough or not deserving of the life that you desire. It is all about pushing through those limiting beliefs and Vanessa details actionable things you can do to master your mean girl today. There were many times I had to pause the recording so I could write stuff down or screenshot the time on the book to come back to later. It also helped me to visualise and set goals that were authentic to me – not what I thought I want to achieve, but actual goals that resonate with me. I will definitely be listening to this again in 2017.

 

 

 You Can Heal Your Life – Louise Hay

An oldie but a goodie. If you are just on the start of your Self Love journey, then this is the book that I would recommend first. Louise Hay is like the grandmother you never had. She is wise, warm and throughout this book will kick your butt. The concept behind this book is that Louise believes that self hatred breeds disease in the body and talks about the relationship to our emotional health and our physical health. It is so easy to read or listen to and my favourite part was the affirmations at the end of each chapter. Louise is a big believer in positive affirmations and meditation to balance the emotional and physical health. I personally have found a massive difference to my physical health since I have been more focussed and aware of my emotional health. A definite must read especially if you want to love yourself.

 

 

 

 You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life – Jen Sincero

This is one of my most recent reads and as soon as I finished it, I listened to it for a second time. I absolutely love Jen’s humour and no-nonsense approach to cutting through the BS we all tell ourselves. This book is filled with so many interesting funny stories, practical exercises and nuggets of wisdom. My favourite chapter was chapter 24 about Money. I’ve been working hard on my money blocks over the past 12 months and they way Jen describes Money and people’s relationship with it completely changed my world. The practical exercise she describes was the first one in regards to money that has lit a fire in my belly. If you read this book for none other than this chapter then it will be worth the investment!

 

So there are my top 3 books that I would start with if you are looking for information about self love and silencing that inner critic.
