Over the long weekend just gone I had the opportunity to hike to the summit of Mt Warning for sunrise. Due to an early rise to hike up before sunrise, we decided to head down to Murwillumba and stay the night. So the alarms were set for 2:30am and we were on the track hiking by 3:20am. It was such a crazy difficult hike to the summit. Full of stairs, rocks, tree roots and for the last 400m of the track a climb using a chain up a steep rocky face. It took us around 2.5hrs to get to the top, but seeing the sunrise was pretty spectacular and totally worth the early rise and difficult climb. The round trip of 9kms took us around 5 hours. My body is still aching from using just about every muscle during the hike!
Here are a few photos from the day:
The first two photos are the sunset on Sunday night looking towards Mt Warning from the Lodge we stayed at.
Of course there was one guy with a drone… And another with a guitar!
There was probably around 50 people at the summit of the mountain watching the sunrise! Certainly worth the effort. Such a beautiful day!
