Yay! Winter is nearly over and spring is just around the corner. I love this time of year. The days are clear, the mornings are getting warmer and the sun is up for that little bit longer. One of my favourite things to do when I need a break from inside and the computer is heading outside into the garden. It’s been quite a while since I have been out there (it’s too cold, the days are too short, it’s too overwhelming!) but yesterday I finally got back into the garden and started clearing out my vegie patch. It has been a little bit neglected over winter, but I am pleased to say that my celery and red silverbeet has come along nicely. Not to mention the few cherry tomato plants that have popped up. So yesterday I decided to grab a shovel and a hoe and start weeding one section of the garden back into some order. The one thing I did notice was how incredibly dry it was! We haven’t had rain in ages! So now that the weeds are gone, I need to get some mushroom compost to bring the nutrients back into the soil before I start planting my next crops. I’m the kind of gardner who is “just through the seeds in” and see what happens. I learnt my lesson from this at the beginning of the year, when too many seeds sprang up and it became totally overgrown. This planting season, I am going to be a little more restrained.
Anyway… enough ramblings about my vegie patch.. What is your favourite thing to do at this time of the year? Add a comment to this post and the person with the most creative answer will WIN a portrait session with me!!! Good Luck!!
