Brisbane Wedding Photographer | Top 3 Tips for Preparing for a Wet Wedding Day

brisbane wedding photographer rainy wedding day photo inspoOne of the only things that you can’t control on your wedding day is the weather… You can plan for a sunny day with blue skies and a mild temperature, but ultimately it is up to Mother Nature as to what the day will bring.

A wet wedding day doesn’t have to be a mood dampener. At the end of the day you are getting married to the love of your life, pledging your love in front of the people who matter most to you. If by chance your wedding day is a little wet (they always say rain on your wedding day means you will be abundantly blessed) there are a few things you can do to prepare to embrace the weather and have an awesome day. I personally thing some of my favourite ever wedding photographs are from rainy days… There is something so romantic about kissing the love of your life under an umbrella while the rain tumbles down around you.

So here are my top 3 tips on how to prepare for a wet wedding day!

TIP #1 – BE PREPARED

If it is looking like it is going to rain or storm on your wedding day, be prepared. Arm yourself with enough umbrellas for you and your bridal party to ensure you stay as dry as possible.

And why not have some fun with it.. You can get so many awesome umbrellas, they can become a awesome prop for your bridal party portraits. Clear, black, multi coloured or patterned… Embrace the wet weather and grab a bunch of umbrellas. Daiso has some awesome $3 umbrellas at their shops!! And why not accessorise with some awesome colourful gumboots for everyone. They can be a quirky feature in your wedding photos!

TIP #2 – WET WEATHER BACKUP LOCATIONS

If you are planning on having your ceremony or reception outdoors make sure that you have a wet weather option. There is nothing worse then on the day being completely stressed out of your mind trying to contact guests, or figuring out alternatives if you have nothing prepared.

This can also apply to your bridal party portraits after the ceremony. Make sure that you discuss a wet weather option and plan for those what if scenarios with your photographer.

TIP #3 –  DON’T BE AFRAID TO GET A LITTLE WET

Some of the best photographs that I have ever taken on wet wedding days is when my couples just embrace the rain and go what the heck, let’s get out there and enjoy it. Of course if it is torrential rain, finding a dry spot is of utmost importance (no one wants to look like a drowned rat for the rest of the night) but getting out in the rain under umbrella and getting a little wet isn’t going to ruin the day. If anything it will give you some AMAZING photos. So embrace the weather, get amongst it and capture some awesome photos.

So there are my top 3 tips – be prepared with umbrellas and gumboots, plan wet weather ceremony and photo locations and embrace the weather and get a tad wet!!! You will look back and think, wow I am so glad I did…

And if you book your wedding photography with me and you have an absolutely torrential downpour all day and it makes the photo taking process super hard.. and you had your heart set on beautiful sunny photos, then I offer a Wet Weather Guarantee.

Our wet weather guarantee means that if it was completely impossible to capture some photos for your day then we will organise a second shoot for you to get dressed up in your beautiful gown and your guy in his handsome suit, head out to your favourite location (or your wedding location) to capture some beautiful photos of you together in better weather. We will then gift you the USB of the photos taken from that session.

So no more stressing about the weather on your wedding day. Be prepare and we’ve got you covered. We can capture some beautiful photographs no matter what Mother Nature throws at us, but you always have the option of a reshoot if the weather is torrential!
