Matt & Shannon | Wedding | The Gabba | 28th March 2014
Last Friday I had the privilege of photographing the beautiful wedding of Matt and Shannon at the Gabba in Brisbane. This wedding was really special to me as I have known Shannon since I was a little girl. Our parents have been friends for many years and it was great to be part of their special day. On Thursday we were all a little worried about what the weather was going to be doing, as it was torrentially raining all day long. Luckily Friday we only had a few showers in the morning but the skies cleared and we had a wonderful clear afternoon. Unfortunately all of the wet weather meant that Matt and Shannon couldn’t get married on the ground like they had planned, but we were still able to head out and take some photographs.
The afternoon started with Mel heading over to photograph the boys at their home and me heading down the coast to photograph Shannon getting ready. Mel did an awesome job with the boys, especially as Matt hates having his photograph taken. How cute are his socks. I love the cold feet little saying and their green colour. Shannon loves the colour green, so it was so lovely to see all of the beautiful elements she incorporated into her day. Shannon had three pairs of shoes all in green – a pair of heels, a pair of flats and the last minute addition of green gumboots. The gumboots came in very handy later in the day for photos on ground. It was so lovely photographing the preparations of both Shannon and Matt. I have to give a bit shout out to Mel from Chantilly Lace Photography for looking after the boys. This is the first time that we haven’t photographed all of the preparations together (due to logistics of travel) and she did an awesome job!
After the preparations had finished, it was back to Brissy for the ceremony at the Gabba. As I mentioned before, they were hoping to get married on the field, but due to the weather, we had to use a side room instead. Jamie from Brisbane City Celebrants conducted the beautiful heartfelt ceremony which was filled with beautiful readings from both sides of the family and little cute sayings in their vows. Shannon was super excited to finally be married! Then it was down to the field for some group photos and a couple of couple shots on the ground. I’d never been on the ground so it was a bit exciting.
After the family photos we headed up to the top of Kangaroo Point cliffs for some night time location photos. This was indeed a little challenging, but I am so excited with the results. We have a beautiful collection of photographs that show off the gorgeous views and even had the chance for some light play. Then it was back to the reception for the cocktail party. The one thing that Matt and Shannon wanted for their day was for the wedding to not feel so formal. They just wanted a relaxed party atmosphere where everyone was enjoying themselves. They even included some fun games (like a wedding ispy for instagram) and an awesome band. The reception was relaxed, social and a lot of fun.
Thank you so much Matt and Shannon for asking me to document your special day. I had an absolute ball. Enjoy your honeymoon and I can’t wait to show you the whole collection when you get back!!
The image below will take a little moment to load as it is an animation, but I think it sums up Shannon’s excitement about the day perfectly.
These cupcakes were the most amazing cupcakes that were filled with gooey chocolate (chocolate ones) and gooey butterscotch in the vanilla ones. Amazing!!
