Last Friday, I had the privilege of photographing the beautiful wedding of Nick and Kelly down at Currumbin Beach. It started off as such a beautiful day – warm, beautiful clear blue skies and a light breeze… As the day progressed however we ended up battling a summer storm. It didn’t really impact the day too much – we just started the ceremony a little earlier and took some beautiful photographs in the rain!
The whole idea of Nick and Kelly’s wedding day is they wanted to keep everything simple and relaxed – no bridal party, just them and the people they love the most. So we started off the day with Nick at Burleigh getting ready. He looked very coastal chic in his dark navy pants and checked jacket. Then it was off to see Kelly in her gorgeous gown at Currumbin. The house they were getting ready at had the most beautiful views and we could see whales frolicking just off the shore. I absolutely loved the cute little barefoot sandals Kelly had on under her gown. they added a touch of bling. And her gorgeous flowers were made by one of her lovely friends.
As there was an approaching storm, and Kelly really wanted to get married on the beach we decided to start the ceremony about 15 mins early to avoid a downpour. Luckily, it worked and despite a few drops here and there throughout the ceremony, were were relatively dry. Nick and Kelly had a beautiful ceremony conducted by the lovely Krista Webb which included a candle lighting ceremony, beautiful personalised vows and a love lock ceremony. It was such a beautiful ceremony and you could really feel how much love was between Nick and Kelly and their friends. With the crazy weather, we were able to get through the ceremony and only had to head over to the surf life saving club to sign the register and complete the ceremony.
After some family photos and a bit of socialising, we were able to head out and about around Currumbin Beach for some beautiful couple portraits. I think the weather made the photos that little bit more dramatic! Thanks guys for being such troopers walking the entire way up the beach in the rain for some magical photos. After we had finished taking the last photos as the sun was setting, the rain was really starting to come down. Luckily for us, one of the guests came up and collected us and drove us back to the Surf Club where Nick and Kelly celebrated the night with their friends and family.
Thank you both so much for asking me to photograph your beautiful wedding day. I am so glad that the crazy weather didn’t dampen your spirits. I think it made for some pretty cool photos! Enjoy your little sneaky peek!
And a big thanks to Jessica for coming out with me as my second shooter! Welcome to weddings!
