Keivan & Alex | Wedding | Branell Homestead | 31st May 2014
Back in May I had the pleasure of photographing the beautiful wedding of Keivan & Alexandra out at Branell Homestead. It was such a gorgeous day to be part of and photograph and the biggest highlight for me was heading up to the top of the mountain where the cloud came over and we were literally in the cloud. It was so magical and gave a special touch to the location photographs. Here is a little story from Alex about the wedding day and their experience. Enjoy!
Bride’s Name: Alex
Groom’s Name: Keivan

Alex: I was standing on the edge of our bed hugging him and he asked “You know I love you, don’t you?” I said “Yes of course, Why?” He stop hugging me back and started to tell me how much I mean to him and how special I am, I thought he was breaking up with me. Then he said “I can’t imagine being with anyone else and I have decided that marriage is something that I want to do with you… So will you marry me?.. I ask him “Are you going to get down on one knee and where is the ring?” Keivan had to run upstairs to get the ring and came back got down on one knee and asked again “Alexandra Kathleen Walton will you please Marry me, Now”? I said “YES”!!!!!
What was your wedding date?
Alex: 31st May 2014
Why did you choose this date? Any special reason?
Alex: We both didn’t want to get married in Summer as it is too hot, and it worked out more affordable for a weekend in May just slightly out of peak wedding season.
Where did you have your wedding?
Alex: Branell Homestead
Was there any special touches, vows, traditions or tributes that you included into your ceremony?
Alex: Our wedding was drenched special touches. We wrote our own vows, we had a poem read and my Adopted Grandma handed keys to Kievan while the the peom was being read. The Men’s poketcheifs are Keivan’s family tartan colours and I wore an heirloom mushroom from my great great grandmother. At the reception we had a floating candle ceremony where we asked everyone to make a wish, pray or take a moment to remember someone. I had recently lost 3 family in the past 12months.We also had a toast to absent friends and family.
If you could pick one special moment from the day to remember what would it be?
Alex: My Dad’s speech. It was so special and emotional and even now I get speechless thinking about how beautiful it was.
Who designed your gown?
Alex: Exquisite Bridial
Where was it purchased?
Alex: The Brisbane Bridal Expo.
What was your gown shopping experience like? Was this dress the first one you tried on? Did you try on hundreds, loved it, hated it?
Alex: I hated dress shopping. My maid of honour and I went to the bridal expo just to get some more ideas and to find a caterer for the venue. My maid of honour thought it would be fun to try on some dresses and I was not interested at all. We looked at heaps of dresses and I picked out a dress that I thought I would like and hated it on, then the dress assistant bought me a strapless dress (even though I told her multiple times I hated strapless dresses) she told me to give it a chance. I put it on and started crying like a baby when I saw myself in the mirror. I felt amazing! The dress assistant said she would give me further discount on the dress as she had never had a bride cry in a dress before. And on the day I borrowed a bolero so the dress didn’t look strapless.
Were there any special details you included in your day?
Alex: I borrowed the bolero from a good friend it was a last minute decision. I also decided to wear the first earings and necklace Keivan ever bought me.
What was your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue?
Alex: My something old was my great great grandmothers mini mushroom from Holand. My Something new was a pearl bracelet from my Mum and sister in law given to me on the morning of the wedding. My something borrowed was the bolero and something blue was the sapphire necklace and earnings from Keivan.
Did you have any DIY elements to your day?
Alex: YES – I made my own wedding cake, I hand wrote on all my bonboneries, I set up my lolly bar and all created all of the beautiful centre pieces on the tables. Together Dad and I made all of the paper floating lanterns that we made wishes with on the dam during the reception.

Alex: Really good. I had to be firm with some of them but overall most of the vendors where very helpful. A special thank you to Kathy at Branell Homestead, Dawn from Simply Elegant Occasions and Nicole. They went above and beyond their job roles to help us create a beautiful wedding day.
Do you have any advice for other brides?
Alex: Don’t compromise what you want to make everyone else happy. Don’t make all the decisions on your own as it is also your husband-to-be’s big day and you’ll be surprised how much of a difference their opinion will make. Don’t pick your bridal party out of family/friend obligation. Do let other people help if/when they offer it. Do ask if there is a discount if you pay upfront or in cash and always ask for a discount. If you can DIY DO IT! Remember its only one day in your life, you have the rest of your life with the person who make you a beter person to look forward too.
What made your wedding day so memorable?
Alex: EVERYTHING – Sounds Cheesy but Keivan. He made it the best day of my life. When I got down aisle the to him we can’t even remember what anyone else said during the ceremony as we were so wrapped up in talking to each other and telling each other how sick we had been all night morning leading up to this point. We both felt better once we had seen each other. SUPER HARD QUESTION!
What was the funniest memory from your wedding day?
Alex: I Sneezed during the ceremony every one thought I was crying, I was actually trying to wipe my nose before anyone could see. And during our location photographs, we played a little “whisper game” and my whispering ssecred wasn’t as mild as Keivan wasn’t expecting… Let’s just say we got an amazing reaction!!
What was the weather and location like on the day?
Alex: Weather was amazing! It was cool, sunny day and in the afternoon we had dark storm clouds roll over. We then had a bit of rain and fog. Tie that in with a vintage country wedding, the hills just made it an amazing back drop to an amazing day. We both think its a sign that we can get though the storm of life together and be left ok and as solid as ever.
If there was one thing that you would change from the day, what would it be and why?
Alex: Taken more photos with friends and family, We missed people because I rushed through my photo list.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Alex: FIJI! for a week in early june was heaven!
