Today I wanted to share a bit of an overview of what a family portrait entails. Obviously depending on the reason of why you are wanting to capture or update your family photos will shift and change the focus of what we would be catching. In this family portrait example, it was Lewis’ first birthday so we created a collection of beautiful photos of him, but also captured the full family and each of his siblings.
So firstly we started off by captured some photographs that represent Lewis; his cheeky personality, that beautiful smile and of course that teething drool.
Being that it was Lewis’ first birthday, it was also important to capture some beautiful photographs with both his Mum and his Dad.
Then we captured some gorgeous individuals of his big brothers.
Then we captured some full family photographs… including Grandad’s horses! The boys are all horse mad, so it made sense to include some shots with the horses. Also I absolutely love the navy and jean colour combination. Similar tones but all slightly different to not be too matchy matchy.
Then we captured some gorgeous photos of the boys together.. And a few on the horse with Grandad’s help (he’s hiding!)
Aren’t these boys just adorable! I absolutely love capturing them as they grow and see how their relationship is growing over time.
These are some of the core photographs that we capture throughout a family portrait session – the whole family, siblings, kids with Mum and Dad individually and of course individuals. The shot combinations really come down to what you are looking for and why you are doing the family session.
