Over the weekend GD and I had the pleasure of heading over to North Stradbroke Island for a day trip. It was such a stunning day. I can’t believe that I hadn’t been over to Straddie for a day trip before. It is so close to Brissy with a quick 25min ferry across the bay and a $10 daily bus pass, we were set.
We missed the first ferry we planned on catching by 3mins due to parking (Hint: If you are parking at Cleveland make sure you leave an extra 10-15mins for finding a park as its crazy down there) so we hung out at the local cafe with a coffee and relaxed before we jumped on board the next ferry an hour later.
As soon as we hopped off the ferry, we jumped straight on to the island bus. We thought we would head over to Point Lookout for a swim and a bit of a look around. You definitely can’t walk from the ferry to Point Lookout. You think that Straddie isn’t really that big until you start walking! Our bus driver was a bit of a grump, but never the less we ended up at Point Lookout.
GD and I decided we would have a swim down at main beach but got a little lost on the path and ended up on the gorge walk. It was absolutely beautiful to look down the beach and we even made a friend with a kangaroo and a fig bird.
How stunning is that water? I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t been over here in such a long time. This beach is absolutely stunning!
So we walked along the headland and headed over to the gorge passing before walking back down to main beach.
We finally made it down to main beach only for the lifeguards to close the beach due to flash rips and bad surf.. So we trekked back up the hill only to find out Cylinder Beach was full of blue bottles! So we jumped on the bus to head to Amity Point.. but the bus driver didn’t tell us the spot we had to change so we ended up back at Dunwich. So we floated around, had some lunch, lazed in the sun and then as the crazy wind change came through we decided to jump back on the ferry and head back to the mainland.
It was such a beautiful day out. We will definitely be back sometime soon and hopefully for a week with the car. Our aim this year is to take more adventure days, photograph and film along the way and live life to the fullest!
What are your favourite day trips in and around Brisbane? I’d love to hear in the comments.
