Earlier this year I had the pleasure of photographing the beautiful wedding of Tim & Eloise. It was such a beautiful day to be part of and I absolutely love asking my brides about their Real Life Wedding experience. So here is their wedding story, as told by Eloise.

Bride’s Name: Eloise Caldwell
Groom’s Name: Tim Kirkwood
Date of Wedding: 18 March 2017
Number of Guests: 80

The History….

How did you meet?
The official story is we met through friends at Archive.. The true story is we actually met online and had our first date at Archive and Chop Chop Chang at West End.

How long did you date?
We dated for about 18 months before Tim proposed and were together for just under 3 years when we got married.

How did he propose?
It was Tim’s birthday. I adore birthdays and was completely focused on spoiling Tim. We were at home getting ready to go to dinner and Tim said he had something he wanted to give me (strange). He gave me a replica Slytherin ring in a Deathly Hallows box (I’m a Harry Potter nerd). I kept getting ready then when I went downstairs he had swapped the ring for an engagement ring and went down on one knee… Needless to say I had to redo my makeup before we went to dinner!

The Wedding….

What was your wedding date?
18 March

Why did you choose this date? Any special reason?
Funnily enough we chose it because it was the only date Nicole was free around the time we wanted and we knew we had to have Nicole!

Where did you have your wedding?
The ceremony was at St Mary’s Church at South Brisbane and the reception was at the Emporium Hotel in the Valley.

Was there any special touches, vows, traditions or tributes that you included into your ceremony?
So many! Tim personally recorded our special song on piano for me to walk down the aisle to. We were blessed to have Tim’s family friend Fr Stephen do our ceremony which made it very personal, most of all the Les Miserables moment he created. We also had amazing singers and musicians to perform during the ceremony. Music is so special to us both.

If you could pick one special moment from the day to remember what would it be?
There were so many special moments. Walking down the aisle with my brother and looking up to see Tim for the first time, hearing our song being played by Tim and taking in all of our loved ones was such an overwhelming moment. I also have to mention the moment at the reception being surprised by my brothers and sister-in-law performing an original song my brother had written for us. Simply unbelievable.

The Gown….

Who designed your gown?
Venita Drennen designed my gown which was inspired by a gown Carrie Bickmore wore to the Logies.

Where was it purchased?
Venita Drennen handmade the gown and sourced all of the gorgeous materials.

What was your gown shopping experience like? Was this dress the first one you tried on? Did you try on hundreds, loved it, hated it?
I had always loved the design of this dress but knew I had to do the shopping thing! I tried on lots of gowns and was surprised by which ones I liked – not really what I had expected! It definitely helped me to really find what I loved and it was how I discovered that a high neck dress was what I really wanted.

Where there any special details you included in your day? Did you borrow a piece of jewellery etc?
My mum gave me a vintage that belonged to her grandmother and I wore it with pride. I also borrowed my matron of honour’s pearl earrings. Later in the day my aunties and uncle also gave me a beautiful watch that belonged to my grandma.

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue?
My something old was the vintage ring, my something borrowed was the pearl earrings, something new was my dress and my something blue were my feature flowers in my bouquet.

Did you have any DIY elements to your day?
We created a kids table for the kids at our reception complete with lolly bags, activity books and an I Spy camera game. They had a ball!

If you could describe the overall theme of your wedding day what would it be?
Simple elegance.

Do you have any advice for other brides? Make sure you leave yourself space to take it all in on the day. I am quite an anal and organised person, which paid off in the end because it meant on the day I was able to just enjoy because I was confident everything was well planned and if anything went wrong it was through no fault of my own!

What made your wedding day so memorable? My gorgeous husband, just feeling so happy and in love every moment. Being surrounded by all of our family and friends – there may never be another time when we have all of them in the same room at the same time.

What was the funniest memory from your wedding day? There were a few! Forgetting when we were supposed to kiss during the ceremony, dancing to R&B getting ready with my girls and the limo rides with the bridal party. The absolute funniest though was Tim’s brother’s best man speech – Never Lego!

What was the weather and location like on the day? The weather was perfect! Rain was looming in the days prior and the forecast was iffy but on the day it was nothing but sunshine.

If there was one thing that you would change from the day, what would it be and why? Absolutely nothing – it was as perfect as you could get! And anything that went a little bit wrong, no one else would’ve known anyway!

Where did you go on your honeymoon? UK, Europe and a stopover in Dubai

And here are a few kind words from Eloise about our wedding photography…

“There is no other photographer we would’ve wanted to capture our day. Nicole just creates such a relaxed and fuss free environment which is perfect for an anxious bride. Nicole has captured every moment of our day. Every time we look back through the photos we relive every single beautiful memory, every laugh, every tear. We cannot thank her and her team enough!” – Eloise & Tim
