Over the weekend, I had the utmost pleasure of heading out to beautiful Mulgowie to photograph the wedding of Dan and Sharna. Mel and I had one of the best days photographing a wedding that we could remember! Dan and Sharna’s wedding day, could only be described by one word – EPIC!
We started the day out with Dan and his groomsmen at the property that he and Sharna own. The boys were so much fun to photograph and gave us plenty of fun poses without us even asking. The boys are true country boys – they hunt, they look after each other and treat each other like brothers. I loved all of the little details that Dan and Sharna incorporated throughout their day. The gorgeous buttonholes on the boys vests that were lovingly hand made by Shirley were made from old bullet casings. And Milo, Dan and Sharna’s beautiful red kelpie was the most gorgeous ring bearer! She was such a good girl and didn’t even mind when we popped a cowboy hat on her head! Dan was so cool, calm and a little bit nervous during the prep photographs, but his groomsmen made sure he was having a ball. After some fun photos running around the paddock, we headed off to the girls.
The girls stayed at the beautiful Gypsy Cottage, a brand new bed and breakfast at The Bluff just behind Rosewood. The cottage was so cute and had the most amazing views of the country side. When we arrived to greet Sharna, she was beaming. You couldn’t wipe the beautiful big smile off her face. She was so excited to be marrying Dan, the man of her dreams. The girls were also so much fun to photograph. I absolutely loved their beautiful vintage dresses finished with a denim jacket and of course cowboy boots. Sharna had two pairs of shoes for the day – boots to ride into the ceremony with and gorgeous gold heels! I absolutely loved Sharna’s gorgeous champagne gown she bought from Spurlings. It suited her perfectly! And her beautiful necklace was her Grandma’s and came all the way from Egypt! So beautiful!
After leaving the girls it was off to The Mulgowie Public Hall where both the ceremony and the reception was being held. The hall looked absolutely amazing inside with tables filled with flowers, books, hessian and beautiful candles. There were so many beautiful personalised details that truly represented Dan and Sharna. The ceremony was held under a big beautiful fig tree which held a collection of photographs of Dan and Sharna’s grandparents. Even though they are no longer with us, they were certainly there in spirit. The weather was a little bit crazy leading into the ceremony. The wind through the gully was gale force, and as the storm clouds formed, we were lucky enough that they held off long enough for the ceremony and the family photographs to be taken. Sharna was so excited to be entering the ceremony on horse back. Sharna is a keen horse rider and there was no way she wasn’t arriving via horse to the wedding. Elsa was such a beautiful black horse and Sharna draped over the back, was such a sight to see. After arrival by horseback, a beautiful heartfelt ceremony was conducted by Gayle Roeworth with personalised vows, three beautiful readings and the exchanging of rings, their union was sealed with a kiss. After congratulations and lots of hugs and kisses, we created a beautiful group photograph filled with confetti! As Dan is a member of the Rural Fire Brigade, they were privileged to have one of the trucks at the ceremony for a photo opportunity. Just after the fire truck photos, the clouds were swirling and it was time to jump in the utes before the heavens opened up.
With 4 utes and us in my 4wd, we were off in and around Laidley for our bridal party portraits. We all had CV radios and as we were driving to the first location, a beautiful rainbow appeared. Mel and I were very excited and asked if we could pull over near a paddock!! Just as it started to absolutely pour down, we grabbed a few rainbow photographs before jumping back into the utes. Then it was off to the red shed, the dirt road and the Lions park before we ended up in a field of Barley for sunset. As we were in the field on the side of the road, a car approached and we were all a little scared we were going to get in trouble. But instead the owners of the property invited us to come in and use any area we wanted to. It gave us so many beautiful photo opportunities. It was so hard for me to choose just a couple of photographs to sneak peek!
After the sun had set, it was time to head back to the Hall for the reception where Dan and Sharna partied with all of their family and friends. Thank you both so much for inviting us to capture your wedding day (and thank goodness for family friends helping out last minute). Mel and I had one of the best wedding days ever. It was so much fun and everyone made us feel like we were part of the family. And a big thank you to Mel for coming out with me again. You rock!! So enjoy your little sneak peek and I can’t wait to show you the rest!!
