Southport Wedding Photographer | The Real Life Wedding Story of Chris & Deborah

Last year I had the absolute pleasure of photographing the beautiful wedding of Deborah & Chris! We headed down to the beautiful Gold Coast at the Southport Yacht Club for their wedding. We couldn’t of asked for better weather! The day was absolutely picture perfect! I love being able to share my clients stories about their experience not only on their wedding day but the process of planning a wedding. Here is their Real Life Wedding experience as told by Deborah.

Bride’s Name: Deborah de Beurs
Groom’s Name: Chris Healey
Date of Wedding: 19th September 2015
Number of Guests: 70

The History….
How did you meet?
Chris offered to buy me a drink at the pub. I ask thought he was British. We engaged in people watching the locals and chatted about travel.

How long did you date?
8 months

How did he propose?
We hiked to the top of Cradle Mountain Tasmania. We couldn’t make it to the top as there wasn’t actually a ‘top’. But on the way back we stopped at a little boat house and he proposed.

The Wedding….
What was your wedding date?

Why did you choose this date? Any special reason?
We both hate the heat!

Where did you have your wedding?
Southport Yacht Club

Was there any special touches, vows, traditions or tributes that you included into your ceremony?
Our good friend mark Gladman did the ceremony. We were surprised as we weren’t sure what he was going to do.  The girls and I came in by boat which was very exciting. We had a South African and New Zealand theme going on teamed with some Dutch treats for my family members.

If you could pick one special moment from the day to remember what would it be?
Special time with my bridesmaids and family.  Being able to share our love with the ones we love.

The Gown….
Who designed your gown?
Mia Saganto.

Where was it purchased?
Luv bridal.

What was your gown shopping experience like? Was this dress the first one you tried on? Did you try on hundreds, loved it, hated it?
Firstly I internally scoffed at girls who spent thousands on ‘one dress’ and admired how clever I was going to be to buy a ‘wonderful’ dress online for under $100.  I did so and then took photos of me vacuuming in it to send to my bridesmaids because that’s about how useful it was going to be to me.    Then I woke up to myself and went to the bridal shop with one idea in mind; nothing big, nothing long, no cake toppers, strapless and nothing flashy.   The girls were lovely at the shop and eventually geared me in the direction of my current dress.  I laughed at fluff ball in front of me and hesitant tried it on.   It was everything I hated and I adored it.   I may have even cried.   I got the totally over the top veil as well and could not wait to wear it. It was a massive wedding highlight to me to have such an out there dress that I just loved.

Where there any special details you included in your day? Did you borrow a piece of jewellery etc?
I wore my late Oma’s ring, we had a nautical theme which was heaps of fun.

Did you have any DIY elements to your day?
My wonderful photographers sewed me into my dress.  I can’t draw a stick man so all diy was OUT!

If you could describe the overall theme of your wedding day what would it be?
Lots of fun and lots of love.
