Mason & Katie | Wedding | Robelle | 21st September 2013
Bride’s Name: Katie
Groom’s Name: Mason
Date of Wedding: 21 September 2013
Number of Guests: approx 70
How did you meet?
Katie: We met at uni over the Christmas break. Mason was dating someone else at the time when we met, however always stayed in touch. Their relationship didn’t last, and we grew closer as friends. After 12 months, we realised our friendship was so much more and finally, he asked me out!
How long did you date?
Katie: We dated for 2 and a half years before we decided on “the next logical step”.
How did he propose?
Katie: It wasn’t as romantic as you would see in the movies, but rather a relaxed conversation in the kitchen joking about it! He didn’t have a ring at the time, but rather asked me to go pick 3 of my favourite designs and give him the details. He then went back and picked my ring and custom designed it with help from the jeweller!
What was your wedding date?
Katie: 21st September, 2013
Why did you choose this date? Any special reason?
Katie: Without realising, the 21st September is my late grandfather’s birthday. After postponing our wedding due a deployment, we opted to keep this date to honour my Grandfather and my promise to him.
Where did you have your wedding?
Katie: We were the first to get married in Robelle Domain Parklands, Springfield Central.
Was there any special touches, vows, traditions or tributes that you included into your ceremony?
Katie: To honour our grandparents that couldn’t be with us on our special day, we had framed photographs of them in the front row.
If you could pick one special moment from the day to remember what would it be?
Katie: The look on Mason’s face as he saw me for the first time walking up the aisle.
Who designed your gown?
Katie: Maggie Sottero
Where was it purchased?
Katie: Casar Elegance, Queen St Mall, Brisbane
What was your gown shopping experience like? Was this dress the first one you tried on? Did you try on hundreds, loved it, hated it?
Katie: I went shopping with my matron of honour, and was told to go with an open mind and not settle on the first gown I try on. We went to 5 different shops, all with different customer service but ended up going back in secret to buy the first gown I tried on!
Where there any special details you included in your day? Did you borrow a piece of jewellery etc?
Katie: I had originally planned on wearing my grandmother & great-grandmother’s wedding rings as part of my bouquet, however they were stolen before their estate was finalised. So my Mum loaned me hers to have as a good luck charm, and I purchased a hairpiece and brooch to start a new family heirloom.
What was your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue?
Katie: My new was my gown & accessories, my old & borrowed was my Mum’s rings and my blue was the ribbon that tied them to my bouquet.

Do you have any advice for other brides?
Katie: Step back and take it all in, as it goes so fast!
If you could describe the overall theme of your wedding day what would it be?
Katie: Relaxed elegance
What made your wedding day so memorable?
Katie: Our family & friends flying in from different cities around Australia to help us celebrate.
What was the funniest memory from your wedding day?
Katie: As Mason went to place my wedding band on my finger, he immediately went for the wrong hand – to which I told him “wrong hand” but it came out a little louder than anticipated!
What was the weather and location like on the day?
Katie: Sunny & 26-27 degrees – a perfect spring day!
If there was one thing that you would change from the day, what would it be and why?
Katie: I’d opt for straps on my gown to hold it in place – I spent too much time having to stop and fix it.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Katie: We’ve opted to postpone our honeymoon so we can save for a longer holiday. We did take two weeks leave after the wedding and discovered new places around Brisbane on our time off.
It was such a pleasure to capture and be part of your special day Mason & Katie. I wish you a lifetime of happiness. Nicole xx
