Chris & Suzie | Wedding | St Mary’s Ipswich & Victoria Park | 11th October 2014
Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of photographing the beautiful wedding of Chris and Suzie. The day started off a little cloudy, but luckily it cleared up into a gorgeous October day. I had been rather excited in the lead up to Chris and Suzie’s wedding, as Suzie’s family is Croatian and I knew that there was going to be many traditions that I hadn’t necessarily photographed or witnessed at a wedding before. We started the day out with the boys at Chris and Suzie’s home. The boys were all pretty cool calm and collected and Cadel the page boy looked absolutely dashing in his little suit. One of the Croatian traditions that we witnessed during the boys prep was a shot of “moonshine” aka Suzie’s Dad’s home brew (I can’t remember for the life of me what it was called) that the boys all shared together. Then it was off to the Suzie’s parent’s place to photograph the girls getting ready. As it is with most weddings, it was a little more chaotic at the girls with hair and makeup just being finished as we arrived. Suzie was a little nervous but was looking absolutely stunning in her gorgeous gown!
Then it was off to St Mary’s Catholic Church in Ipswich for a beautiful traditional Catholic service. Father Nev officiated the ceremony that was filled with love, respect, honour and family. It was beautiful to see a traditional wedding service. Then after a group photo and some family photographs at the church, it was off to the Ipswich Japanese Gardens for part one of the bridal portraits. The bridal party was absolutely awesome. Even though there was quite a few of them, they all were great fun to photograph. The light at the Japanese Gardens was just divine. It was then back in the limos for part two of the location photographs at Victoria Park, where the reception was also being held. Everyone was super relaxed after a few beverages during the drive in, so the photos were a lot more relaxed for part two. Then as the sun set, it was time to party at the reception.
The reception was one of the most interesting, non stop receptions I have ever photographed. We had a few beautiful Croatian traditions mixed throughout the reception including the pinning of the rosemary to each guest as they entered the reception, the throwing of the money and lollies for the children on the dance floor together with the traditions of speeches and cake cutting and finishing off with a dance with the bride and some traditional Croatian and Aussie dancing. It was so much fun to photograph. Then at the conclusion we said goodbye to Suzie and Chris with an awesome sparkler tunnel!
Thank you so much for inviting us to be part of your day. It was such a wonderful day and we truly felt like part of the family. It was so lovely to be able to witness and photograph the many traditions throughout the day. Enjoy your little sneak peek and I can’t wait to show you the rest after your honeymoon.
I absolutely love the reaction of the bridesmaids as they see Suzie for the first time. She just looked so gorgeous!!!
Suzie was smiling for the entirety of the day. She was so happy to be marrying Chris!
How cute are these two?!
