Weddings at Tiffanys Maleny | Josh & Kasey – A Real Life Wedding Story

A couple of months ago I had the pleasure of photographing the beautiful wedding day of Josh and Kasey. It was such a gorgeous day up at Maleny and Weddings at Tiffany’s was beautiful as always. I was really looking forward to photographing Josh and Kasey’s wedding as I have worked with Kasey numerous times before as a wedding stylist – Fashionable Society Events. So here is their real life wedding experience.

Couple: Josh & Kasey
Date of Wedding:
 23rd August 2015
Number of Guests: 47

The History….
How did you meet?
We met at a Sunday session at The Normanby Hotel. One of my friends started chatting to one of his friends and we were the awkward two so I asked a question about his tattoos and the rest is pretty much history!

How long did you date?
We were dating for about 6 months before we moved in together. Josh was working night shift and I had a normal 9-5 job and we had very limited time together so we thought we’d dive in to the deep end, take the chance and move in together.

How did he propose?
We did things a little backwards… we knew we wanted to get married and we went up to Maleny to check out a couple of wedding venues out of interest and ended up falling in love with Weddings at Tiffany’s. Before we knew it we’d booked a date and paid a deposit so the countdown was on for Josh to make it official with the ring! We’re not good at hiding surprises so I knew when he’d made the deposit on the ring and when he’d finished paying it off he bought the receipt home with him to tease me. Josh ended up proposing to me at his parents house the day he picked up the ring – it was a perfect proposal for us, it suited us with our family and little four-legged ‘son’ around to enjoy the moment.

The Wedding….
What was your wedding date?
Sunday 23rd August 2015

Why did you choose this date? Any special reason?
No special reason for us.

Where did you have your wedding?
Weddings at Tiffany’s, Maleny

Was there any special touches, vows, traditions or tributes that you included into your ceremony?
It was important to us to write our own vows, make them personal but the big thing for us was being able to have Oscar, our Shih Tzu x Pekingese ‘son’ as part of our ceremony. Oscar was our little ring bearer and he absolutely stole the show – we couldn’t imagine getting married without him.

If you could pick one special moment from the day to remember what would it be?
It would have to be when I was reading my vows, I was starting to get a little emotional so Josh held my hands still while I read them off our book… then Oscar started letting out little grumbles and made everyone giggle, which saved me from tears!

The Gown….
Who designed your gown?
Roz La Kelin Bridal

Where was it purchased?
Roz La Kelin Bridal – Stones Corner

What was your gown shopping experience like? Was this dress the first one you tried on? Did you try on hundreds, loved it, hated it?
This dress was actually the dress I had saved on my phone since we started talking about the wedding. I loved it and once I started shopping, I forgot about it! We went to a couple of stores, trying on some beautiful gowns and then I remembered the picture. We called the store and I was there in half an hour. The girls put the gown on me and without even seeing myself in the mirror, I just knew this would be the dress!

Where there any special details you included in your day? Did you borrow a piece of jewellery etc?
One of Josh’s best friends passed away about 12 months before our wedding. He was due to be the Best Man so we arranged for Josh and the groomsmen to have cufflinks with Aaron’s initials and we had a spare seat at the reception where he would’ve been in memory of him.

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue?
Everything was new! I actually struggled finding it all so my something borrowed and something old was the same thing – a diamond ring which belonged to my great-great grandmother. My something blue was a little blue ribbon on my underwear.

Did you have any DIY elements to your day?
We DIY’d our favours – little jars of hot chocolate with mini marshmallows.

If you could describe the overall theme of your wedding day what would it be?
Intimate Elegance would best describe our theme. With the small guest list, we wanted our day to feel more like an intimate dinner party rather than a formal reception. It was important to me to have the warm candlelight and soft flowers with the muted colour scheme I had chosen.

How did you find your overall experience with the above vendors?
Everyone did such an amazing job at making our day so magical – it felt like we were the most important people in the whole world for that day!

Do you have any advice for other brides?
I’m a little bias because of my occupation, but it would be to hire a stylist. I loved that when we walked into our reception room, it felt like it was made just for us. I explain to all my couples that styling your venue to match your personalities and relationship. For me, there’s nothing more impersonal than walking into your reception and seeing the same setup the venue put out for the bride and groom last week, last month and last year.

What made your wedding day so memorable?
Getting married of course and knowing how blissfully happy we were. Everything just went so perfectly and having the most special people around us was well worth it.

What was the weather and location like on the day?
We had showers the day before which made me a little nervous but it cleared up for our wedding day and it was picture perfect for us! Maleny was simply stunning and put on the best day for us – it threatened to rain at One Tree Hill during our photos but it gave way to the most incredible sunset that Nicole had us running up a hill to capture in time!

If there was one thing that you would change from the day, what would it be and why?
Absolutely nothing!

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We were pretty boring – we had our wedding night in luxury at Spicers Clovelly but then went home for the rest of our week off. We’re real homebodies so it suited us to a tee!
What can I say… Nicole was amazing. I knew she would be after working with her previously so I had high expectations but she absolutely blew our minds with our photos. From our engagement shoot through to our wedding day and after the fact, Nicole could not be faulted. We felt important, we felt like she cared and really wanted to capture us as a couple. We didn’t want posed photos, we wanted natural, beautiful shots and that’s exactly what she delivered… and she was excellent at including our little man Oscar too!

And here is a little slideshow from their day if you would like to see more of their photos!
